so technically, its not quite summer yet. but yesterday sure could have fooled me. my friend and i took a spontaneous road trip down the back roads of our country town. windows rolled down, wind twirling and swirling our hair, sun dimmed through our sunglasses. just us and the big open countryside. the roads wound tightly and stretched on for miles. old southern songs kept us singing as we drove. after our excursion, we stopped by my friend's farm. we strolled through fields of yellow, made our way around the ponds on the property, and greeted a few horses. climed the extremely steep ladder to the barn's loft (learned that when someone says "don't look down", almost always you will have an irresistable impulse to look nowhere but straight down) and watched the bumble bees chase eachother in the breeze.
the buzzing and whistling reminded us of summertime. through the winter and spring, our appetites for the dog days of summer have skyrocketed. oh how we will savor each day of june and july and august. basking in sunlight on blankets in the grass. wasting away hours on the neverending roads of no where. to think, this day was just a sampling of what's to come. and we both agreed this kind of day will become a regular.
what is your idea of a picture-perfect summer day?
the third fifth, and last photos. beautiful.
ReplyDeletemy idea of a perfect summer day is cool weather (never happens in texas) lounging on the porch and maybe some barbecue in the backyard. i'd photograph the whole thing. great post :))

ReplyDeletei love this. so much. i need to move out there and be your neighbor, seriously. my idea of a perfect summer day is being curled up under a willow tree, in a field of flowers, on an old quilt, with nothing but my favorite books, a picnic basket, and the one i love beside me. magical.

ReplyDeleteAnd my perfect summer day
Oops, my phone wouldn't let me write anymore on that first comment... My picture-perfect summer day would be husband's day off work...sun shining and warm on our skin...we'd be out in the backyard with Brooks and Ava...eating frozen cherries we had picked from our tree...Brooks would be running through the sprinklers...OH I CAN'T WAIT :) And it sounds like your plan for many relaxed days this summer is peeeeeerfect :)
